WoW Forever name reservation: when is it, and is it worth it?
Short answer: WoW Forever's early name reservation runs from 27 October to 3 November, and you can reserve up to three character names in total, across every ruleset. It's only for players who pre-purchased, and names are first come, first served (Blizzard). I probably won't bother: Forever names come in two parts, so you're unlikely to miss out, and in my opinion the names aren't worth it.
When does WoW Forever name reservation start?
WoW Forever name reservation starts on 27 October in Europe and North America, and on 28 October in Korea and Taiwan. Here are Blizzard's start times, with Thai time next to them:
| Region | Opens (local time) | Thai time |
|---|---|---|
| Europe | 27 October, 18:00 CET | 28 October, 00:00 |
| North America | 27 October, 1:00 pm PDT | 28 October, 03:00 |
| Korea | 28 October, 07:00 KST | 28 October, 05:00 |
| Taiwan | 28 October, 07:00 CST | 28 October, 06:00 |
It stays open until 3 November everywhere. If you play in the European region from Thailand, that's midnight going into the 28th. Forever has no realms, so names are unique across the whole region.
How many names can you reserve in WoW Forever?
Three, in total, across all rulesets. Blizzard's own example: make two characters on a PvP ruleset and you only get one more on a Normal or Role-Play ruleset. The limit only applies during early reservation.
Is three enough? I don't even know. If you're really established in the WoW community and you don't want someone to become you and steal your identity, sure. But I don't see the point. I don't think I've ever noticed anyone's name in the game.
How do names work in WoW Forever?
Every WoW Forever character gets two names, a first name and a surname, and only the full combination has to be unique in your region (Blizzard). Two characters can share a first name as long as their full names are different.
So someone else taking the first name you want doesn't lock you out of it. You just need a different surname with it.
Who can reserve names in WoW Forever?
Only players who pre-purchased the Skyborne Heroic Pack, the Skyborne Epic Pack or the limited-time Warcraft Forever Collection, and only on the WoW account it was bought for. Blizzard says names can't be guaranteed.
I think I bought the middle pack. But is it worth buying one just for the names? No. The names are not worth it, in my opinion.
Am I reserving names in WoW Forever?
Probably not. All of mine are a first name with Gitmgg, and the first name depends on what that character is doing, like Frosted for my Mage. So I don't think I'm going to have to pick up a good name, especially because it's two names. If it was one name, maybe.

If I do make them, they're going on the Normal ruleset. I'm PvE all the way. I ain't got time for getting hecked up while I'm trying to gather resources and working on the other computer. And it's WoW Forever, not Classic, for me.
Is the WoW Forever beta still open?
Yes, for a couple more days. Blizzard extended the beta to 10 am PDT on 23 October, which is midnight Thai time going into the 24th (Warcraft on X).
I'm playing it right now. I've just pulled my add-ons onto the laptop, and it plays fine on the laptop, which is really nice. Everything else I've written about Forever is on the WoW Forever page.
