Can Horde Paladins get the Cloak of the Divine Storm in WoW Forever?

Short answer: not right now. WoW Forever's Divine Storm quest chain rewards the Cloak of the Divine Storm, and at the moment only Alliance Paladins can complete it. I'm a Horde Paladin, so I'm one of the people locked out. I'm hoping it's a bug.

What is the Divine Storm quest chain in WoW Forever?

Wowhead says it's a reworked version of the Divine Storm rune quests from Season of Discovery, ending in a cloak instead of a rune. Wowhead reported on 10 October that the chain awards the Cloak of the Divine Storm, and that only Alliance players can currently complete it.

Per Wowhead's quest data, it's a Paladin chain for Humans and Dwarves from level 22. It starts with an orb in the Tower of Althalaxx in Darkshore, sends you to collect Summoner's Salt from the Blackrock Summoners in Redridge Mountains for a quest giver in Stormwind, then to Felfire Hill in Ashenvale, and finishes with Return to Delgren. Stormwind and Darkshore are about as Alliance as it gets.

I didn't know about the chain before this. I'd completely forgotten it, even though I've played Alliance before.

What does the Cloak of the Divine Storm give you?

Stats, not Divine Storm. It's a rare, item level 35 cloth cloak with 26 armour, +5 Stamina, +5 Strength, and an equip effect that increases damage from Holy spells and effects by up to 8, per WCLBox's item data. It binds when picked up.

So what Horde Paladins are missing right now is a good cloak for the level, not an ability. Nothing on the item itself teaches Divine Storm.

And it's a sick cloak. Here's what Maple, my level 22 Undead Paladin, is wearing instead: the Grave Shroud, a green.

Worse on every line. Some of that is just level, but the Divine Storm cloak is the one an Alliance Paladin can start working towards at the same level I'm at now.

Is it fair that it's Alliance only?

No. I don't think there's anything that shouldn't have an equivalent on the other side. If Alliance Paladins get a quest chain and a reward, Horde Paladins should get a matching one.

And it matters more in WoW Forever than it would have before, because Horde Paladins are new. Undead are the only Horde race that can be Paladins here, which is what I'm levelling: Maple, an Undead Protection Paladin.

Should you roll an Alliance Paladin to get it?

I wouldn't. I'm not going to roll a whole new character just to do a quest. That seems absurd. I'll wait for Blizzard to fix it.

Is it a bug or deliberate?

I hope it's a bug. I hope it's just such an edge case that nobody tested it from the Horde side. I can't see a team that's been building this game for over 20 years not thinking about the balance of giving one thing to Alliance without a matching thing for Horde.

Blizzard hadn't said anything about it when I wrote this. I'll update this page if a Horde version turns up or Blizzard comments.
