Best WARDOGS servers for Southeast Asia

Short answer: pick the official Asia (South East) region. I play out of Thailand on about 30 ping. Community guides say those servers are in Singapore; BULKHEAD hasn't confirmed it anywhere I've seen.

I just play in the South East Asia ones, on the official servers. I haven't found the need to go into the custom ones yet. I am in Bangkok and I'm getting around a 30 ping, so I'd like to assume either the servers are here or in Singapore. BULKHEAD themselves haven't actually confirmed where the servers are.

Never have I found that the SE ones are too quiet, but if they are, there are other Asia servers. If the ping is particularly bad on the SE server, then it's most likely because all of the servers are getting DDoSed, so there's no point moving away anyway.

I haven't found the need to go into a server that says English only, because even over here in SE, the two languages that are mostly spoken are English or a Chinese language. So you'll be fine if you are English in Southeast Asia, communicating with your team over text or proximity chat, which is always fun to do.

The maintenance hasn't been too bad. I think the last one was at 3pm Bangkok time, so mid-afternoon.

Which WARDOGS server region should I pick in Southeast Asia?

Asia (South East). It's the official region, and from Thailand it's the obvious one: about 30 ping for me, across most of my 145 hours. If it's quiet at your time of day, the other Asian regions are the next thing to try, at the cost of more ping.

If it's down rather than quiet, switching region rarely helps. When the SEA servers have been down, it's mostly been a DDoS hitting most of the servers at once, so you're better off waiting it out.

What ping can you expect from Thailand?

Around 30 ms on Asia (South East), on a home connection in Thailand. That's low enough that it never decides a fight. Further from Singapore, expect it to climb.

Do you need an English-speaking server?

Not really. Most lobbies on the SEA servers already run in English and one of the Chinese languages. English is the bridge language across Asia anyway, so you'll get by fine on the official servers.

Some players run their own English-only community servers for the region, Warhogy's for example, with their own rules and admins. I play on the official servers, so I can't vouch for them.

What are the Asian lobbies like?

Better than you'd think. Proximity chat means you hear people's accents, and I've ended up in squads just from recognising one and answering in their language. You run into the same people again and again on the Asian servers, which is half the fun.

When does maintenance hit in Thai time?

BULKHEAD announces maintenance in UTC. The 0.1.2 update went down at 08:00 UTC, which is 3pm in Bangkok and 4pm in Singapore. That's mid-afternoon for us, while it's 9am in London and 4am on the US East Coast, so maintenance tends to land in Asia's afternoon rather than its night. Check the time on the announcement before you queue.
