Is WARDOGS dying?

Short answer: no, WARDOGS isn't dying, but it is emptier. Servers have fewer people in Season 02, but it doesn't matter yet. You only need one game sitting at around 80 people: you join it, and it gets to 100. I don't think it's empty to the point that anyone's struggling to play. When I wrote this, 177,555 people were playing.

How many people are playing WARDOGS?

WARDOGS still has well over 100,000 people playing at once, but Season 02 is dropping fast. By SteamCharts, Season 02 averaged 211,490 players online over its first three days and 123,683 over the last three, down about 42% in a week. Season 1 averaged 159,064 from 16 September to 14 October, with an all-time peak of 402,686. Season 02 has averaged 166,576 so far, well above Season 1's last week (116,326), so the wipe brought people back, but they're leaving faster.

What did BULKHEAD say about Season 02's players?

In the first episode of its podcast The Hotzone on 24 October, BULKHEAD said Season 1 had about 3.5 million players and Season 02 had about 1.5 million in its first 24 hours. The team said the angriest reaction came from a few thousand of the most vocal players, the YouTubers, streamers and posters who were on at 9 or 10 a.m. on launch day, and that the median player is enjoying Season 02 more and coming back the most (at 8:00, 13:00 and 21:00).

Does that match my games?

BULKHEAD's story doesn't really match my games. I barely played Season 02, so I guess I'm not the average player. Those two numbers don't compare like for like, either: 1.5 million is Season 02's first day against Season 1's whole run. But players online are falling, and I think most people just didn't care enough to go to X and tell BULKHEAD. They showed it another way, by going to a different game.

Why are WARDOGS reviews Mixed?

WARDOGS' recent Steam reviews are Mixed: 55% of the 44,470 reviews in the last 30 days are positive, against 74% across all English reviews (Mostly Positive). BULKHEAD said on the podcast that once recent reviews slip to Mixed, Steam stops promoting the game, so it sold few new copies that weekend (at 26:00). The team also said the plan is to raise the price.

Would I still tell someone to buy WARDOGS?

Yes, I'd still tell someone to play WARDOGS. I've got over 200 hours in it. It's $39.99 now, and BULKHEAD says the price is going up.
