Is Cyberpunk 2077 worth playing in 2026?

Short answer: yes, Cyberpunk 2077 is definitely worth playing in 2026. It's one of my favourite games to play, and it's far better optimised now than when I played it at launch. People playing it now are going to have a better experience than people did then.

How bad was Cyberpunk 2077 at launch?

Cyberpunk 2077 ran badly at launch, even on a high-end PC. I played it when it came out in December 2020, and it ran like clappy bum cheeks on my PC at the time: an i9 with 64 GB of RAM and, I think, a 30-series card. It wasn't going so well, so I went into Fallout 4 instead, because it was essentially the same kind of game for me: I just wander around building a life. Cyberpunk has got more and more optimised since.

What's new in Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.5?

Update 2.5, the Edgerunners 2 update, came out on 22 October 2026 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with the Switch 2 and Mac App Store versions following a few days later. The headline is dual-wielding pistols, through a new Double Trouble perk in the Cool tree. It also adds a new Edgerunners 2 gig called Clampdown, a new side quest, new clothing sets, a new radio station, and mods and an FOV slider on consoles. I play on PC, so the console bits aren't for me.

Will update 2.5 bring me back to Cyberpunk 2077?

Update 2.5 could bring me back, but I'm more likely to come back if I see someone else showing me something. It's another game that takes my time. Now that the WoW Forever beta has closed, it could be the one. I've only got my laptop with me, which might struggle to run it, but I might check it out, because the idea of dual-wielding pistols and going back down the crit route would just be hilarious.

Would I dual-wield pistols in Cyberpunk 2077?

Yes, a pistol build is how I already play Cyberpunk. The last time I played, I based my character on the song Big Iron: a massive iron on my hip, one-tapping folk with a big old pistol. I've probably watched more Cyberpunk than I've played. The most recent one I watched, I think, was The Spiffing Brit doing a pistol run, going for absurd crits.

How do I play Cyberpunk 2077?

I play Cyberpunk 2077 the way I play GTA: I just waddle about the street, doing my own little thing most of the time (should I play GTA 5 before GTA 6?). It's one I like to just walk around in. I'm shocked I've only got 36 hours in it. I've easily watched longer playthroughs than that.
