Short answer: no, I don't think the Save Mass Effect petition will work on its own. It could have a billion people sign it, but if someone isn't going to fund saving Mass Effect, the names don't really matter. EA still has to put up the money itself or find someone else who will.

What is the Save Mass Effect petition?

The Save Mass Effect petition is a Change.org petition started by a fan, Joe Smith, after EA closed BioWare on 21 October and ended early development on the next Mass Effect (why did EA close BioWare?). It passed 170,000 signatures within days, and separately, fans are planning a billboard outside EA's California headquarters (Windows Central).

Will the Save Mass Effect petition work?

The Save Mass Effect petition won't work just by getting bigger. This isn't politics. It isn't something you can overturn by putting your name down and demanding it. EA still has to either put up the money itself or find someone else to put up the money. And what is it, 180,000 players? Is that enough to recoup the amount of money it would take to make a new Mass Effect? I've not signed it.

Is the leaked Mass Effect 5 trailer real?

I haven't seen the leaked Mass Effect 5 trailer, and in the world of AI, I would always assume something like that isn't real. This one does seem to be, though: Kotaku reports that Bloomberg's Jason Schreier confirmed through his sources that it's real footage from Mass Effect: Universe, the game EA cancelled (Kotaku). EA hasn't confirmed it.

What does it mean if Mass Effect is over?

If Mass Effect is over, for me it's new games, new times. There are games I've been playing for a long time, and never have I thought, oh damn, I'm not going to get any more of this game. I just play whatever the last one was. Fallout 4 came out ages ago, and I would still play Fallout 4. I'm not thinking, when's Fallout 5 coming?
