Is ARAM Mayhem better than normal ARAM?
Short answer: for me, yes. ARAM Mayhem keeps what makes ARAM fun, everyone fighting in the middle with nobody camping a lane, and adds augments that make every game play out differently. I've played League since 2012 and Mayhem is the only thing I play now.
What is ARAM Mayhem?
It's ARAM with augments. Champion select is the same as normal ARAM: no bans, and you're offered two random champions to pick from, sometimes three. The difference is four augment picks during the game: the first as soon as you spawn, because you start at level 3, then at levels 7, 11 and 15.
Each pick offers three augments in Silver, Gold or Prismatic tiers, and you can reroll an offer once. Runes are turned off completely, though some keystones come back as augments. Exhaust is the only summoner spell you can't take. Mayhem launched on 22 October 2025, and there's a free 32-reward progression track alongside it.

How is Mayhem different from normal ARAM?
It's more chaotic. In normal ARAM, every Blitzcrank does the same thing. In Mayhem, the same Blitzcrank can turn out completely different from one game to the next, depending on what he's offered.
One game he becomes an absurd tank out of nowhere: the Heartsteel quest, Soul Eater for health every time he grabs someone, then Tank Engine, and he's massive. The next game he gets Eureka, which turns his AP into ability haste, goes full AP, and he's ulting every nine seconds or so and doing a world of damage. I've had one where he picked up extra hooks as well. I think it goes up to five.
So there's far more that can happen, while still keeping the fun of ARAM: you're all fighting in the middle, and there's nobody camping a lane and stomping one person.
Is ARAM Mayhem permanent?
Not officially. Riot says it "will stick around until further notice", and that "this mode is not replacing ARAM; it's just another flavor for our rotating game modes."
If they took it away, I'd just go back to normal ARAM. But one thing worth pointing out: when you go into ARAM now, Mayhem is the one you pick first, with normal ARAM listed below it. Mayhem is the default. After how much prominence they've given it, removing it would be jarring.
How long is an ARAM Mayhem game?
Usually 12 to 15 minutes for me. Guides put it at about 20 minutes, but I'd say shorter. I've had games end at around eight minutes, before you could even surrender.
They can run longer too. If everyone ends up super tanky with a load of overpowered augments, nobody dies fast and the game drags out. My game this evening went 25 minutes 46 seconds for exactly that reason. That short game length is a big part of why it's all I play now: Summoner's Rift and ranked take too long and are too serious.
Is there ranked ARAM Mayhem?
No, and it shouldn't have one. You can't put ranked on something with that much chaos and RNG in it. Your rank would come down to whether you got the right augments. Didn't get them? Down a rank you go.
Anyone who wants ranked should go back to Summoner's Rift. Mayhem isn't something you play seriously: people go AFK and build wild stuff. I've had an AP Lucian with nothing on him that scaled off AP.
What's broken in ARAM Mayhem right now?
Loads of things. Most of what feels broken is about being tanky and then turning that health into damage, and these aren't rare augments you'd struggle to get:
- Heavy Hitter (Silver): basic attacks deal bonus damage equal to 3.5% of your maximum health.
- Quest: Steel Your Heart: once you've built up 300 Heartsteel stacks, your Heartsteel health gains are tripled. I've ended up around 999.
- Soul Eater: 20 permanent max health every time you immobilize an enemy champion.
- Tank Engine (Gold): 5% more max health and size for every takedown, with no cap. It was winning 60% of games on patch 26.17, per arammayhem.com.
Put those on Nautilus, who's grabbing and knocking people up all game, and you're doing a heap of damage while being disgustingly tanky.
On the damage side, Eureka (Prismatic) gives ability haste equal to 30% of your AP. On Vladimir, who stacks AP anyway and needs the cooldowns, it's insane. And Phenomenal Evil gives you Veigar's stacking passive as an augment, so on Veigar himself you get double stacking.
What happened in my last game?
I played Nidalee and didn't die for the first 11 minutes. Then I got walked down for the rest of the game, because I didn't roll well enough on augments, and their Ornn rolled into a full tank. I pinged his augments in chat: Leg Day, Steel Your Heart, Goliath and Heavy Hitter. That's two from the list above, plus Goliath, a Prismatic that gives 35% bonus health and makes you 50% bigger, and Leg Day, for movement speed and slow resist.

It's still tanks winning. Our Corki went 36/14/32 and did 178,409 damage, by far the most in the game, and it didn't matter: Ornn just walked through our team. We had more kills, 73 to 65, and still lost.

What are the downsides?
You can get clapped. If you get terrible augments and the enemy gets the best ones, you're in trouble: depending on the augments, one player can easily 1v9. You can reroll each offer once, to a different augment of the same tier.
Is ARAM Mayhem better than normal ARAM?
For me, yes. It's ARAM's all-in fighting with far more variety, games are short, and nobody takes it too seriously. If they ever pull it, I'll go back to normal ARAM, but right now Mayhem is the only League I play.
